New Vs. Old

Hi everyone, and welcome to the Dan Armstrong blog - better known as Danny Blogs. Working t hrough my web site, it is awfully hard to get a community gathering - as I am forced to speak with each and every one of you on a person to person basis. While I will still answer all emails I also feel that a community gathering is needed.
So, let me start off asking about new vs. old. For those of you lucky enough to own, (or play) both an original Dan Armstrong model and a new reissue model - how do they compare? What are you likes, dislikes of the reissues. What are your likes, dislikes of the originals - and would you suggest that someone like me buy a reissue when I've played the originals for so long? Feel free to elaborate - that's why we're here. -M

  1. Hi,
I have a DAN 1 30 Watt Combo! I absolutley love the crisp and warm tone! Can't believe I am so fortunate to have one of these rare amps.

Don't suppose any one has an idea of value? Am looking to get it separately insured.

  2. Those are some amazing additions of information for these beasts. I had only now realized the .org site had been expansively revamped. Terrific reading and I'm not done yet, as just getting to the links after reflecting on A1249D, here by my keyboard. The more I read the more puzzled I am but that is fair normal for me.

All indications of mine has always read as a 1969 with a lot of 1970 updates but curiouser and curiouser as I browse. Early formica, fat neck, old wiring, Schalers but phillps screws in an unmatted bridge plate.

Puzzle me no less than confuzzeld but I restrung it anyway and am going for a ride around it once more.

Garrrr, four pick-ups left to find. I hold only the RT CB and JT.

Loved here by me since 1976 and looking for more extras.

Cheers and again, great job on the site update.

    Glen

  3. Hi Mark,
I'm a brazilian owner of a dan armstrong 1970. I spent some time researching bout my guitar and your website was the largest source of information, but still have some doubts about it. It's a very different model. Chrome pickguard with "AMPEG Dan Armstrong" written in high relief, maple headstock and truss rod cover chrome, grover tunning machines and it doesn't have the switch, but there are two holes on the pickgard. It is difficult to gather more information about it and would realy like to talk to you.
Please, mail me at eduardoamayo@gmail.com if you can. I realy need to know what's original and what was modified by previous owner.
I'll be glad to send you some pictures of it and i'm sure that it will be very useful to your reseach and your website.

    Thanks for your time.
    Eduardo.

  4. Hi Mark. Your website on Dan Armstrong guitars and basses is absolutely amazing! This past Saturday, I purchased a 1969 Dan Armstrong bass (D219A) for a very low price. It is in very good shape for its age (no nicks or dings, only micro dust scratches and a cracked top plate on the pickup. The instrument seems to have some transitional features, such as a pickup cavity with about 1/4" space on the left hand side. There are no screw holes where there might have been a cover plate. I have some photos I wanted to share with you in hopes you can answer a few questions I have about the bass. Thanks for you help. Sincerely, George

    1. Hi George, I'm updating the site for 2020 and ran across this site from years ago. I was hoping it would generate some good conversation but it never took off. You can contact me at myfirstname@abe.midco.net if you still have the guitar.
